Laura Kwong

Alumni

Laura Kwong is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Woods Institute for the Environment at Stanford University, where she also earned a PhD in Civil & Environmental Engineering. Prior to Stanford, Dr. Kwong worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency where she worked at the policy level on water quality standards. Dr. Kwong uses human-centered design principles to develop engineering interventions that address public health issues in low-income countries. As part of her extensive fieldwork, Dr. Kwong has lived and worked with project partners in Bangladesh, Indonesia, China, Mongolia, Peru, and Uganda for 2 of the past 8 years. She has also spent time learning local languages to facilitate communication with community members and collaborators. Dr. Kwong’s research focuses on quantifying children’s exposure to environmental contamination and upgrading the built environment to improve child and maternal health.
